The first of two MMORPGs to make the list, New World was the first major hit from Amazon Games, the online shopping network’s play at breaking into the games industry. The MMO put players in the boots of an explorer in the mid-seventeenth century sent to colonize a fictional new continent, and had players grinding for raw materials and crafting to settle the untamed land. Top 10 most played games LoL, COD, Fortnite, and CS:GO are all hugely popular games with massive monthly player counts. In 2020, though, a social deduction multiplayer game took over. After Fall Guys exited its honeymoon phase, Among Us was there to replace it. At any time this year, it could very well be the most viewed game on Twitch and YouTube. Streamers often play with other big names and give viewers entire days worth of Among Us content. This game is truly something else.

Dice Throne can be played by up to six players, but I enjoy it most and play it most as a head to head duelling game. Each player takes it in turns to roll their character’s unique dice in a Yahtzee-style system to choose attacks which will deal damage to the other player, and the other player responds with a defensive roll. Simple cards from each character’s unique deck add some interesting little wrinkles, but the heart of the game is a simple, easy to learn, dice rolling battler. I love it, I would recommend it to anyone, and I expect it to stay high on next year’s list.
